October 2025 Grand Round - Maria-Elena De Trinidad Young
“Immigration, Mental Health, and Health Care Access among Latinos in Rural Communities”
Dr. Young is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at the University of California, Merced. In the presentation, she shares key findings from the Policies Influencing Rural Latino Health (PIRLH) Study, a population-based survey examining how U.S.- and foreign-born Latinos experience and navigate immigration policy in rural communities in California and Arizona. She explores the relationship between immigration policy and the well-being of this population and shares lessons learned from conducting research with hard-to-reach populations.
